The icon that is Diana Ross shares her words of wisdom.
Diana Ross, 77, started out in legendary group the Supremes back in 1959. After leaving the band, she went on to have an uber-successful solo career, and is celebrated for helping to create the sound of Motown. She did all this whilst overcoming racism and sexism in a male-dominated industry.
However, there is far more to Diana than just her showbiz career. She is also a mum of five children on whom she dotes, and has seven grandchildren and counting.
Diana has been married twice, but has said in the past that she considers her second husband, Norwegian magnate Arne Næss Jr, to have been the love of her life. Unfortunately the pair split when news broke that Arne had conceived a child back in Norway whilst they were married. A few years later, he died after falling in a climbing accident in South America.
Yet, though she has faced turmoil in her life, Diana counts herself very lucky, “I have got five beautiful children, a wonderful career, a wonderful life.” She says.
Diana in her own words
“Instead of looking at the past, I put myself ahead twenty years and try to look at what I need to do now in order to get there then.”
“I really, deeply believe that dreams do come true. Often, they might not come when you want them. They come in their own time.”
“You can’t just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream, you’ve got to get out there and make it happen yourself”
“I have a lust for life. I’m in love with trees. I love nature and I’m a people watcher.”
“I sing all the time. Music is a part of my being. Like when I’m walking, I walk with a rhythm. I carry myself as if there’s music inside. I can be on an elevator and I might hum a song or sing something, and someone might get off the elevator and say, “Thanks for this concert.” And I don’t even realize I’m humming.”
“You can’t just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You’ve got to get out there and make it happen for yourself.”
“If I have someone who believes in me, I can move mountains.”
