The biggest night in fashion is back! Celebrities and designers descend upon the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York city for the world’s most notoriously glamorous fundraiser; the Met Gala.
For most of us, the Met Gala is a chance to pour over the extravagant outfits and incredible designs but when celebrities reach the end of the carpet and head inside, what is the evening all about?
The Met Gala or Met Ball, is the incredible opening-night for the MOMA’s Costume Institute’s Spring exhibition. The Costume Institute is the only department in the museum that is self-funded so the annual charity ball is an essential fundraiser.
When will it take place?
Returning only eight months after the 2021 event, the gala will take place on Monday 2nd May 2022.
Vouge’s live stream begins at 6pm ET, making it 11pm in the UK.
What is the theme?
Since 1973 the Gala dress code has been aligned to the specific theme of the year’s Costume Institution exhibition. This year it is titled ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ which will celebrate ‘anonymous and unsung heroes of US design’.
The theme acts as a ‘part two’ to the 2021 gala, also a celebration of American style, titled ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’.
According to Vogue the dress code for the Gala is white-tie and the NYT has dubbed this year’s theme as ‘Gilded Glamour’ – we’re expecting gold galore and we cannot wait!
Who will be there?
Vouge editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour hosts the event and handpicks the guest list every year.
The four official co-chairs; Blake Livley, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda, will be among the first to walk the red carpet and open the event.
The honorary chairs for the 2022 event will be Tom ford and Adam Mosseri.
Eight directors, Janicza Bravo, Sofia Coppola, Julie Dash, Tom Ford, Regina King, Martin Scorsese, Autumn de Wilde and Chloe Zhao, are working with the museum to create different rooms within the institute, with most, if not all, likely to attend.
Although the guest list is kept top secret, some of our favourites who are rumored to have made the cut are:
Sarah Jessica Parker,
Madonna,
Salma Hayek,
Diane Von Furstenberg,
Donatella Versace,
Brooke Shields
And Jill Goodacre
