A woman’s beach vacation takes a dark turn when she begins to confront the troubles of her past.
Upcoming eOne release The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut which premiered at Venice Film Festival to rave reviews, will screen as part of the BFI London Film Festival in October as the Headline Gala.
Olivia Coleman’s act was described as “mesmerizing” by the Financial Times, with The Guardian saying that she “truly lit up the screen” with her powerhouse performance.
The Lost Daughter follows Leda (Olivia Colman) who is alone on a seaside vacation and becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach.
Unnerved by their compelling relationship, (and their raucous and menacing extended family), Leda is overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion and intensity of early motherhood.
An impulsive act shocks Leda into the strange and ominous world of her own mind, where she is forced to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.
Based on the 2008 novel by Elena Ferrante, The Lost Daughter also stars Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, Peter Sarsgaard, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Paul Mescal. An unmissable watch.
In UK cinemas in January 2022 and we can’t wait to experience it for ourselves.
