Provence Retreat: accommodation

The base for all activities is a stunning old farmhouse that offers a unique and peaceful retreat from which to enjoy an invigorating and thoroughly uplifting break away from the stresses and strains of modern life – and, with extraordinary views from the house, terrace and pool, guests can spend their mornings gazing down over rolling hills stretching all the way to the sea.

This original farmhouse/villa, which has had extra rooms added to it over the years to expand its capacity, has been recently renovated to the highest of standards. Inside, it exudes a contemporary yet personal feel, while the exterior retains the charm of a classic Provençal home.

The surrounding land is awash with fruit and olive trees, and depending on the season, you might be able to enjoy fresh figs, plums, mulberries, cherries, and lemons plucked straight from them each day. The wild forest behind and around the house stretches for miles, and is teeming with colourful butterflies. Occasionally, you might even be lucky enough to spot wild boar and deer, or hear owls calling at dusk.

And, as an added bonus the farmhouse is just a five-minute drive away from the local medieval village of Seillans, officially recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Hiking in the mountains

Hiking is one of the central themes of the retreat, and is designed for nature enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in the stunning landscapes of Provence. From exploring winding trails that lead through thick green forests, fragrant wild lavender fields, to making your way to the tops of mountains, these are hikes that will take you off the beaten path into the wilderness, offering a truly unique and undiscovered experience surrounded by nothing but nature’s beauty.

Food and wine

Ah, the food! There’s something magical about the cuisine in this part of the world. Perhaps it’s the rich soil, or the French passion for culinary excellence, but whatever it is, one thing is for certain; the flavours here are simply unforgettable. Food is another cornerstone of the retreat, with a delightful gastronomic experience guaranteed.

During the retreat, a variety of delectable French and Provençal recipes are prepared and served to guests, with menus changing with the seasons to ensure the freshest ingredients available always take centre stage. Expect traditional and authentic dishes that reflect the culinary heritage of this beautiful area and France, and that are packed full of the ‘wow’ factor.

To complement the home-cooked meals, the retreat also includes one breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner out at a local restaurant during the trip. The eateries nearby are truly exceptional, and again, offer a range of incredible dishes that showcase the very best of Provençal and French cuisine in all its glory.

And of course, wine also plays a starring role. A biodynamic wine tasting and tour of a nearby vineyard offers a chance to learn about the sustainable winemaking process before sampling some of the fantastic wines being produced there – and in a region that is globally renowned for its excellent wines, you know you’re in for a treat.

Soak up some culture

The medieval villages perched upon the hillsides of Provence are truly a sight to behold, and with their timeless charm and stunning architecture, offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. The trip includes spending time exploring some of these quaint villages, each with its own unique character and history, as well as discovering a vibrant local market. Half a day is also spent at a local beach, where one can unwind on the beach and take in the sea breeze.

Sustainable adventuring

Provençal Adventures is committed to sustainability, biodiversity, and community impact, and efforts to reduce carbon emissions include powering the villa with solar energy, limiting motorised transport to essential journeys, and sourcing food locally from the villa’s land and nearby producers. Nature conservation is prioritised by harmoniously coexisting with wildlife around the off-the-beaten-track villa and offering hiking trips that allow guests to understand the beauty of respecting our natural world. Supporting a sustainable and biodynamic vineyard and the adoption of eco-friendly practices like recycling and avoiding plastics further reflect a dedication to preserving the environment.

The tours are designed to benefit the local community by supporting small farmers, producers, and businesses.
