While the world may feel like a scary, uncertain place at the moment, there is some positive news. Many beauty brands are creating free hand sanitiser in an effort to help curb the coronavirus outbreak.
One of the major players is LVMH –– owner of Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and more –– has pledged their companies facilities in France to produce ‘hydroalcoholic gel’ and hand sanitiser. It’s in a bid to support the hospitals, who are at risk of running out.
What’s more, the company announced these will be delivered ‘free of charge to the healthcare authorities’. In a statement, it read: “LVMH will continue to honour this commitment for as long as necessary, in connection with the French health authorities.”
Other brands have been lending a hand too. Pai skincare announced it has created its own hand sanitizer in just two weeks. Named ‘Acton Spirit’, after the company’s base in Acton and the community spirit and resilience in the area.
The initial batch was donated to neighbouring schools, nurseries and charities, before being available across the UK. Pai is committed to the ‘buy one donate one approach’ and you can get yours here.
COTY is another company who has started producing hand sanitiser, hoping donations will reach tens of thousands of units per week.
In a statement, CEO Pierre Laubies said: “As a responsible beauty company, we make our resources and facilities available to help the communities we are operating in during these exceptionally challenging times.
“We are proud to support the brave professionals fighting on the frontlines against COVID-19 by providing hand sanitizer where it is needed.”
L’Oreal are taking things further still, announcing it is using its factories to produce hand sanitizer and hydralcoholic gel to be distributed throughout Europe. The Foundation L’Oreal is also donating one million euros to associations working to help those disadvantaged in the crisis. The chairman Jean-Paul Agon said in a statement: “Through these gestures, L’Oréal wishes to express its appreciation, support, and solidarity with all those who mobilize with extraordinary courage and abnegation to fight against this pandemic.”
In extraordinary times, it’s fantastic to see people coming together.
